According to Lig, the final FV/AAPC study committee report “unanimously approved by MVP” will be posted on the FPCJ website today.

I began to write up some observations on the 17 views they’ve declared out of bounds. I’ll post it here in a bit for feedback and advice about if, when, and where I should post it publicly.

I thought that the 17-point statement came from Central Carolina?

What do you mean “according to Lig” — did you hear from him directly?

A friend of mine wrote Lig and he sent him an email back saying that the official version would be out today. My friend sent me a copy of the email.

BTW, I have not heard back from Bebo yet. After I sent him a brief note to make sure I had his correct email address he did respond to confirm his address. Since then I have sent him two emails, but he has not responded. One of my notes to him was a long explanation and clarification of what I had originally written on my blog (essentially what I posted here a while back). This seems to be SOP for these guys. They don’t seem to want to bother with specifics and details. Maybe I’m wrong, but it sure is frustrating.

Wilson Benton did the same thing to me. And at the presbytery meeting this past week his arguments on the floor against Mark’s ordination were clearly influenced by the exchange we had a year ago. But what is frustrating is that he doesn’t seem to hear, or maybe believe, my own clarifications and explanations. Why do these guys have always have to put the worst possible interpretation on what we say. And further clarification is always ignored. This also seems to be the case with AAPC’s attempt to clarify themselves to the MVP committee.

Have conservative Presbyterian pastors and theologians lost interest in careful distinctions? Are we even able to make nuanced distinctiions in the charged atmosphere of confessional idolatry that plagues our circles?

FWIW, I think Rich Lusk’s “What More Could I Have Done” is a good short piece explaining some of our concerns.

It should be helpful with literate lay people.

Mark

PS. I still vacillate as to what one should do in these circumstances.

I got Bebo’s address for you from Dean Moyer and he told me straight out that Bebo doesn’t use email and that anyone wanting to talk to him should probably just call.

Yes, I remember. But Bebo responded to my intitial inquiry speedily. I guess I can call, but since I took the time to write him a long note, he should at least make the effort to acknowledge what I wrote. I’ve written him back since and he has not even acknowledged receipt.

Yep, that’s pretty pitiful. I do think there is some weird thing with email for some people — they don’t really view it is obligatory to respond, etc. Even my dissertation advisor is like that — I almost always have to call him if I want to get any substantive feedback.

Well, it’s not up yet. Which is just as well since I haven’t had any time to think about a response yet today.

But also, Jeff, if you wrote a long note, that could be overwhelming for him to respond to. It’s takes so much time to type and think through. Recently, I had a person send me a four and half page paper that was filled with accusations and complaints, and he wanted a reply immediately! In writing! And as I read it over, I thought, “Who has time for these rantings? Who has time to reply in detail to these detailed accusations and barbs?” Not saying your note was that way, but putting yourself in Bebo’s shoes, its demanding to try to straighten things out by typing.

I’d suggest you call him. You can say in a few minutes what it would take hours to type and for him to process.

PS I called the guy, and we had a meeting. It lasted only an hour and a half, much shorter than it would have taken me to type the mess out.
